This adds character to the structure while maintaining its sleek, contemporary appearance. To make this plan more visually appealing, add whitewashed brick and wood panelling.
The metal roof of design 1058-73, as shown above, is a throwback to the past. It is not only robust, but it also lends your home a beautifully aged appearance. Wins on all fronts! If you use white board-and-batten on the front of the building, it will seem older without being too dazzling.
Long, thin windows, rustic lanterns on each side of the front entrance, and glass pocket doors leading to a rear porch define this design.
Deep inside
It’s all about the tiny details that add up to make a huge impact when it comes to achieving the contemporary farmhouse aesthetic in interior design. A house should be comfortable and welcoming without sacrificing flair. The building’s architecture incorporates earth tones, repurposed wood, and rustic finishes, making it seem like a home.
As an example, consider the kitchen in 901-136. Because the colours are so light, the space seems spacious and uncluttered. A farmhouse sink, gallery cabinets, and a range hood with wood detailing give the kitchen an old feel without being overpowering. Another informal element is the kitchen island’s crisscross wood side panels.
Stainless steel farm sinks blend the best of the past with the contemporary, while white shaker style cabinets, such as those in design 1078-53, provide a classic aesthetic. Another subtle method to keep this motif alive is to add ornate legs to the end of the kitchen island.
Plan 437-83, seen above, is a home with a farmhouse kitchen and some contemporary features. Although both the shaker and gallery cabinets are white, textural details such as crisscrossed wood, brass hardware, a large hanging chandelier, and a metal range hood provide depth to the design. The environment is calm and not overcrowded.
A pair of barn doors is the perfect illustration of rustic elegance. Sliding barn doors, such as those in plans 437-83 and 1058-73’s master closet, are a terrific way to add a distinctive design feature to your house. Barn doors aren’t only a lovely way to improve the appearance of a space; they’re also a practical method to divide a room, such as a study or office, while keeping the rest of the room open.
Rustic wood ceilings can make a space seem cosier as well as more open. Plan 1058-73 has whitewashed beams, shiplap, a skylight, and distinctive lighting. Because of these factors, the space seems to be open and linked to the outdoors. It complements the farm’s rustic vibe well.
